Quick Search Engine Traffic

by Mark Fortimer

Search engines rank pages based on the relevancy and repetition of the keywords (that is, the words being searched for) in web pages. However, all search engines do not just use the frequency of keywords in ranking pages. Other factors such as meta tags and title bars and the presence of keywords in them is also a deciding factor. A warning! – overloading web pages with keywords may make the web page attractive to search engines but not to visitors, readers and potential customers. Therefore, it is important to use keywords with some caution and not to overload web pages with keywords at the sake of lucidity of style and language, and validity of information. Here are a few basic steps to generate more traffic using search engine optimization (SEO).

  1. Keywords – The idea is to choose one or two keywords for every web page and repeat those keywords within the web page but not use them forcefully.
  2. Content- The content of the webpage is the most important part of the web page. Fancy graphics do not retain readers. Neither does keyword overloading. So ensure that the textual content of the web page is valid, concise and useful.
  3. Meta tag – Though the relevancy of meta tags are decreasing, still the meta tags should be well worded and keywords should be used within the meta tags to attract search engine spiders (or trackers). The title bar should also be keyword loaded.
  4. Site structure – The site should not have any broken links and everything should be presented in a simple and easy to access manner.
